Prefold cloth diapers are popular for their affordability and are the most common diaper supplied by cloth diaper services. Though they don't share all the bells and whistles as other more modern cloth diapers, they have their definite and permanent place in the industry and they have been proven dependable and economical.

However, Thirsties Duo Hemp Prefolds are no ordinary prefold! Typical prefolds are bulky and take a long time to dry. When hung to dry, they can become stiff and crunchy. In addition, most prefolds are 8 layers thick in the middle, which makes it difficult to clean all layers of the diaper thoroughly. Thirsties Duo Hemp Prefolds are designed to allow water and air to flow through the 2 layer thick panels, permitting thorough cleansing with little effort and quick drying times. When trifolded the prefold provides 12 total layers of soft and thirsty hemp-cotton!

Our custom-tailored hemp jersey is as soft as your favorite t-shirt and it's knitted with love right here in the USA. Hemp is an ideal diaper fabric as it displays antimicrobial properties, is many times more durable, and is more absorbent than cotton. In fact, our hemp jersey is 25% more absorbent than a prefold of the same weight made from cotton alone! This translates into a very trim and effective cloth diaper with a hefty amount of absorbing power.

Invest in some cloth diaper safe laundry detergent that won't leave a residue on the fibers of your diapers. A popular choice you can find locally is Tide Free + Gentle.

Prep-wash: Wash and dry your natural fiber products once with detergent and warm water before use.

Tip: You may wash your natural fiber products with your other white laundry for the prep wash, as long as you use a cloth diaper safe detergent.

A note on natural fibers: Natural fibers tend to clean easier than synthetic materials, but you can expect to see wear on natural diapers earlier than a synthetic fiber diaper. Edge wear holes tend to develop in the top layer of natural fiber along the serged edges and leg casings, but in most cases the performance of the diaper is not affected. Yep, it's really that easy! Shake solids into the toilet after each diaper change.

Store your soiled diapers in a DRY diaper pail. Soaking in a 'wet pail' is not recommended and it can damage your diapers.

Toss soiled wipes and inserts into your pail along with your diapers.

Wash on a Quick Wash cycle on warm with detergent to 'pre-wash' your Thirsties.

Add more detergent and wash with hot water on a Heavy Duty Cycle with an extra rinse. Add washing soda or Calgon if you have very hard water.

Hang dry in the sun whenever and wherever possible. Alternatively, dry in dryer on medium-high heat for about 60-75 minutes until fully dry. Add dryer balls for quicker drying.
