A prefold is a flat diaper that is usually quilted and can be trifolded or fastened under a diaper cover. They are the workhorse of the cloth diapering world, and very affordable and versatile. Thirsties has strived to overcome many of the cons of prefolds in the design of the Duo Hemp Prefold:
- We have the same amount of layers throughout, accept at the top which you can fold down
- Patent-pending design is easy to clean, quick to dry, and grows with your baby
- Made from buttery soft custom hemp jersey knitted in the USA (55% Hemp, 45% Cotton)
- 25% more absorbent and much more durable than pure cotton
- Maintains a trim and comfortable fit
- Naturally antimicrobial

interesting, I didn’t know that snappis shouldn’t be used with hemp prefold. thanks!
My first cloth diaper was pri-folds and Thirsties covers! Love love love them! :)
I’m considering the duo wrap and hemp prefolds for my almost 6 month old but I’m so glad I read that they shouldn’t be used with pins or snappis. I’m testing out a friends cotton prefolds and I’ve been doing the jelly roll fold with snappis because I’m worried about holding all the poop in! But I love the cute patterns Thirsties has and I’ve read great reviews on all the products.
If they were only 25% pricier than classic cotton prefolds in addition to being 25% more absorbent, you can bet I’d use them all the time. The 2 we have are great, but not so much better as to justify the cost in our limited budget.
This is great information. We started our diaper stash with a range of different types, but we consistently go back to prefolds and covers because they’re just so easy and effective. I didn’t realize that Thirsties prefolds were primarily made of hemp!
